Welcome to the Abyssinian Apostolic Church

The Abyssinian Apostolic Church recognizes the seven (7) sacraments of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. These sacraments are observances in the life of the church, as well as the believer. Additionally, sacraments are the acknowledgement of the grace that the Lord our God gives to us freely and openly.

The sacraments are as follows:

Holy Baptism: Baptism is the sacrament through which professing believers become members of the Living Body of Christ: the Church, and through which the stain of original sin is removed. The Abyssinian Apostolic Church does not baptize infants or children under the age of accountability. We believe that baptism is only and rightfully observed by individuals who can profess Christ as their Lord and Savior for themselves.

Holy Eucharist: The Eucharist (Lord's Supper, Holy Communion) is not only a memorial of our Lord's sufferings for us, but also the sacrament through which Christ presents Himself to the faithful and imparts indescribable grace, including life itself. We invite all baptized believers in the Lord to unite with us as we celebrate Christ's presence with us and in us and through us.

Confirmation: This sacrament if the acknowledgement by a Bishop that one has been received into the membership of the Church and has received the grace and gifts of the Holy Spirit – evidenced by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and the display of the fruit of the Spirit.

Holy Matrimony: This sacrament is the blessing of the joining together of one man and one woman in bonds of Holy Matrimony, through which grace is received to live in the holy union of marital bliss as husband and wife.

Reconciliation: This sacrament also called “Penance”, is the sacrament through which we receive forgiveness of sins.

Anointing of the Sick: This sacrament, also known as “Extreme Unction” is the sacrament through which one receives healing and restoration, or prepares one to meet the Lord.

Holy Orders: This sacrament is the observance and recognition of those whom the Lord has called and chosen to serve His Church in the office and ministration of Deacons, Priests and Bishops. This is also known as “Ordination.”
